Activate Search Service

I'm running SharePoint 3.0 on a Windows 2003 Server with SQL Server Express Advanced Services (Fulltext installed and activated). Activating the search feature in SharePoint results in an "unknown error". What are the options?

Have you looked in the Event Viewer on your SharePoint server?  Often the errors will be logged there.

My bad - I didn't realize that the search database must be an emtpy set and not the actual sp content database. Thank you for helping.
