Hi gamespy007,

I'm not sure you can use chmod on a Windows machine as that's a *nix command.  You may have to set the file permissions from Windows.

Since both my test server and real servers will not be unix based is nessesary to worry about CHMOD or can I proceed without any problem. Im tring to use either the scripts from cutenews or phpnews which both instruct me to change the CHMOD from the beginning

You should be able to right click the Remote Site files in DW and change permissions that way.  Locally, you will need to use Windows to change the permission (right-click, go to Properties).

The DW ftp client may not support this properly...I don't do Windows web hosting (ever) so I don't know if the right-click context menu has the "Set Permissions" option on a Remote Site running windows.  I recommend looking into another method of managing your remote files where you can change permissions.  Googling for "changing file permissions on windows apache" produces some interesting results...a lot of sites appear to say to not worry about permissions unless there is a problem.

Read this...some good info here:

Hi Gamespy007

CHMOD is Unix Only, it doesn't exist on Windows Systems, the equivilant in Windows would be
755 - Read & Execute
777 - Modify
You can make these changes either via IIS or via Windows Explorer if local.  For Unix all you need to as Jason pointed out is Right Click the folder under the Site Remote View and select "Set Permissions" to change CHMOD to 755 (Recommended) or 777.

Cheers
