I have a remote user with the following issue:
When opening Outlook 2007 internet browsing with Internet Explorer does not work.  (receives typical MS cannot access page, your internet connection may be off ... etc....)
When opening Outlook asks for the username and password and then goes to DISCONNECTED.
Before opening Outlook internet browsing is okay.  After opening Outlook, internet connectivity is non existant.
When browsing is not available, PINGing websites (cnet.com) is available without error.
No other user is experiencing this issue to my knowledge.

ENVIRONMENT:
Win 2k3 Server running Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2
Outlook 2007 client running cached with RPC over HTTP.
User is on a Verizon DSL line direct into his Lenovo T60 notebook LAN port.
Client computer does not have WIndows Firewall on.
Client is running Symantec Antivirus Corporate

No chance there is a VPN client present on the user's machine which is triggered when opening Outlook. This would be very typical if there was a VPN. VPN's by default block local network and Internet access unless configured with split-tunneling. RPC/Http should not require a VPN at all but wondered if it is a possibility. Check the dial up settings in Outlook under tools, options,  set up, dial-up.

No VPN.  Brought unit back to main office and it worked okay.  Found a w32.spybot.worm as soon as I turned it on and removed it.  Research showed that this shouldnt have had an impact on what I was doing but who knows.  Thanks for the quick reply.

Wonder if the virus was installed directly after opening Outlook making it appear related.
Regardless, glad to hear you were able to resolve.
Thanks Indy_IT_Admin.
Cheers !
