Scrolling text over a video

I inserted an MPEG file into a Powerpoint slide. I want to have text come scolling in from the top OVER the video while the video is playing. But every time the text comes in, the video stops playing.

Maybe scroll the text IN the video? You can use Windows Movie Maker to do this - It's free, it's fully functional, and if you have XP SP2 or Vista, you already have it installed.

Use a video editor to add scrolling text to the mpeg video before inserting it into powerpoint.

I used Windows Movie Maker to edit the movie from 10 minutes to 1 minute. But then Windows Movie Maker saved it under some file format that I can't use in PowerPoint. I don't really want to resort to some third-party software. I thought there might be some organic way of doing it (staying within the confines of Microsoft). If not, I'll just abandon it, it's not worth that much trouble.

Windows Movie Maker can save it in formats you can use in PowerPoint, I do this regularly. Use the Export option to save your file.
