I need to remotely register a .ocx file from a windows 2000 server to xp clients, the users have no administrator rights. I also do not know which program will use the ocx file. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

You should be able to do this with a script and the psexec utility.

To register an ocx file manually (as an admin) you can run ;

regsvr32 <path & filename of dll or ocx>

First you should test that the above works on one of your client machines.

Once it does I suggest reading the following link on the usage of psexec.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/psexec.mspx
It should give you the informtaion you need to create a command line that uses psexec to run regsvr32 on the remote machine using credentials that you supply in the command line.

As an example the following command;

psexec \\RemoteMachineName regsvr32 /s <path & filename of dll or ocx>

This would do what you want as long as everyone had the neccassary rights. You shoudl just need to modify this so it runs on the remote machine with the required rights.

Hope that helps
