I have just used a Program called Smart data recovery to recover some deleted Excel 2000 files.  The file restores fine but when you open the file all the data looks corrupt or is encrypted.  I wanted to no if i can fix the file.

    Hi GrundonIT,

I've not heard of Smart, is it advertised as being Excel recovery? Have you tried the built in recovery in Excel? What type of file is it that became corrupted - if it is a shared (Tools -> Share Workbook) file then the data may be un-recoverable. All the experts here specifically advise to avoid shared workbooks due to the number of times we have seen them corrupt and lose data.

Is there a company backup of the file you can restore?

If the smart software is specificly for recovering corrupted Excel files, and it hasn't worked, then I would suggest the data will be lost to any recovery you can perform yourself. It may be a professional recovery company can get your data back, however they really aren't cheap.
