VPN connectiion on Vista

Hi All

I am trying to connect my laptop from home to the office using a VPN connection. The laptop is running Vista Business and comes back with the following error. When I connect from my desktop at home running XP pro it works fine.

Error 806: The VPN connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be completed. The most common cause for the failure is that one of the Internet devices (for example, a firewall or router) between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) protocol packets.

Though I haven't run into that error with Vista some services do not seem to work properly with Vista due to the fact that it uses TCP Window Scaling. Make sure you update your router's firmware. Many have updates that resolve issues with Vista.
There is also a "auto-tunning" command line change that helps:

Also all previous versions of the Windows VPN can use both MS-CHAP v1 and v2 and in the default state will negotiate the highest security level. Vista is only compatible with MS-CHAP v2. If the VPN server has been set to only use v1 it will need to be changed to accommodate Vista. This should not be necessary to change unless the defaults had been overridden.
