Created msi files are very large

When I build my VB 2003 application I get a msi file that is  66Mb My collegues get files that are round 1.5 Mb. After an update of VS 2003 and CR XI my msi files suddenly were 1.5 Mb too but I got a problem in the application (couldn't present an image based on a dynamic link). Beside CR in VS 2003 I have CR XI installed. I had to reinstall CR XI. Now the application is working alright but I am back to the size 66Mb. The application is under development and installed on an remote server with rather slow connection. It would be nice to have a smaller msi to save build and trasfer time. My webpages are small and simple. I believe CR attatch almost "all files it has" to the build either the application needs them or not. Is there a way to achieve the smaller file size?

You almost certainly only need to install the crystal merge modules on your web server once.  You could create a dummy project that uses the crystal components and install it with the merge modules onto your server - it is a big install and there's no way to trim that down.  However once that's been done you can probably leave out the crystal merge modules for future installations and have a much smaller build size.

Note that if you upgrade your crystal components due to a patch or service pack you'll need to deploy the updated merge modules or your new apps won't work.

Thanks, I'll try this. How can I specify to leave out the crystal merge modules in my normal applications?

Just remove them from your setup project before you build your msi file.
