Flash MX 2004 Mask set within button doesn't render when published

I can't believe I cannot find any help on this, no matter what combination of search terms I try. Gawd.

Anyway, simply put: I set a mask on a layer within a button in FLash MX 2004. The mask operates properly in the editing view, but when I publish.test, the mask doesn't work - that is, the mask appears as a solid shape and the layer is not masked.

If I change the object to a movie type, it will work.

Just an inherent bug or limitation in Flash? Surely wouldn't be the first one!

Figures that their tech support is the worst, too.

Can you give us a little more detail on how you created the mask, button, layout of layers, etc.  Something that we can troubleshoot?

Thanks,

It does seem to be a "limitation". Check out this kb article from adobe:

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15439&sliceId=2

" Masking a layer inside of button does not work.
Reason: The layer masking feature was designed to work on layers in the Timeline only, and not on layers inside of a button.
Solution: Use a mask layerin a movie clip and then place the movie clip inside the button.
"

There are a few links in the article to help with the solution as well.
