Reloading Factory Defaults to a Cisco 3550 24 Port Switch.

I have a 3550 switch that I want to completely blow away so that we can donate it to a local school.
I would like to kill all configuration and the switch name.

What's the best way to accomplish this ?

# erase start

A reboot should verify that the startup config is gone.

The ID has not changed after followign that procedure.
My prompt is returning with the custom name of the switch

When you do an 'erase start' does a 'sho start' provide the custom config or the default?

Perform it in this order;

write erase
reset

After the 'write erase' if the switch asks if it wants to save the configuration, say 'n' to it and let the device reboot.

Hello There,
try this:
1- erase startup-config
2- reload
3- say no when asked to save.
