How do I migrate folders and filters from pop to imap?

I originally set up pop accounts in Thunderbird. Now I added an IMAP account and find that it is a top level folder. So I desire to migrate folders and filters from the pop accounts to the imap account. I know very little about IMAP, so treat me as a beginner.

Greetings ramrom !

Your POP3 accounts go to the default Local Folders Inbox.  Now you want the emails to go the IMAP folder?

For existing emails, you can highlight them. Right click and select Move.  Choose the IMAP folder to move to.

For new emails, go to Tools > Message Filters.   Set up a rule to move emails that are sent to your POP3 email address and copy or move them to the IMAP folder.

Best wishes, war1

Those answers don't apply to my situation.

How could I ask the question to get the answer I want?

I have Local Folders. Under that I have sub folders, and filters to direct POP mail to the folders.

I want the IMAP folder to have the same sub folders and filters. I was hoping there was some configuration file I could manipulate to accomplish that goal. Otherwise I have to do a lot of copy and paste to recreate folders and filters.

Is that clearer?

To replicate your Inbox subfolders in IMAP account, you will have to do so manually.

Would you be interested in having your IMAP account SHARE those folders, or just look like them?  You should be able to use the Global Inbox if you desire to Share.

Just to look like them will require manual effort.

From
http://kb.mozillazine.org/IMAP:_advanced_account_configuration
In versions of Thunderbird prior to 1.5, you can drag and drop a remote folder to a POP account or Local Folders, but not vice versa. You need to create the destination folder beforehand when uploading messages. This is a limitation of Thunderbird (prior to 1.5), not IMAP.

Oh yeah, and as far as filters, from
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_Filters
filters must be set up on a per-account basis, and they likewise operate on a per-account basis. There is not currently any option to create "global filters" that will operate on all accounts 'except in the case of multiple POP accounts using the Global Inbox. In this case, you can create filters for Local Folders that will be applied automatically to incoming mail for all those accounts.
