1 CD game, but use 2 Steam accounts? Possible?

Look, I bought Counter Strike Source CD for 19.99 and It came with a CD key. When i used 1 account, only one computer can play it. Now, i wonder if i make another steam account, will i be able to play that game with one CD key.

NO, the solution isn't "why not try it yourself" because i will get BANNED permanently.

Just to be clear, you have one CS Key but you want to play on more than one machine?

If you are only going to be on one account at any one time then yes a Steam account is the way to go.  Steam will then keep each computer updated to the latest version BUT you will only be able to log into one of them to play at any one time.

Yes you are right. one key but more than one machine.

The real question should be if they use the Key to regognize you.
Games like Age of Empire 3 uses Key to regognize you thus only allowing one accout. however, some games dont care about your Key, they only use it for "passing" the installation process but never to register you or stuff like that.

I didn't want to try becuase they might ban me forever for theft or fake key generation, you know.

Opps I forgot, when you mention only allow one computer to play, I know that. But that is because it is the same accout.

How do they recognise you:

If you connect using the game alone Valve use your Key to identify you.  If you go via Steam they use your Steam account (you can add keys to Steam for the other games you own so they are all kept updated). Valve also log your IP address.

You can connect using either method but becasue your Steam account is registered with your CD Source key you won't be able to connect using one computer via CS Source and another computer via Steam at the same time.

You need a valid key to connect online, if you created an installation using a fake key it won't be spotted until you connect to their server. Then the trouble starts!

Kilocent,

When you purchase the game you register the key to an individual steam account, and that key can only be registered to one account. So no, you will not be able to have the same key associated with 2 different accounts.

A steam account can only be connected from one machine at any time, so you cannot connect 1 copy of the game twice.

However, why not just buy another key from steam for the account that doesn't have the physical copy associated with it? I'm pretty sure that it costs less to buy from steam than it does to purcahse a physical CD.

Cheers,
MUK.
