Can't completely uninstall Norton AV 2006.
Posted on 2007-08-12
I have just recovered a laptop to the day it came from the factory and am having trouble removing Nortons Antivirus 2006 from it. I'd like to be able to remove Nortons so I can put Symantec Client Security on.
I have uninstalled Nortons via Add/Remove Programs, run the Nortons Removal Tool all of which has run successfully but when I try to install Symantec Client Security from our server, there seems to some hangover registry settings playing up. When Symantec first fires up I get the Live Update icon in the taskbar and its balloon says 'Nortons Protection Centre'.
I've trying uninstalling Symantec Client Security several times, trying to to find Registry settings with 'Norton' in them and deleting them, but I can't delete the legacy keys and on some occassions its only left me with a Norton Protection Center error on startup (can't find itself).
I was having issues with it prior to the recovery and this was meant to give a fresh start, but the problem is no different.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!
