I keep getting this event in my event viewer, i think something the previous admin was working onI am not using sharepoint on this server, i just want to stop the error from appearing.

I also facing the same problem but this time it is on Windows Server 2008 x64 + MOSS 2007 SP1,
on the registry key, i couldn't find the AllowNetworkService ?

I found that I also had to delete the associated SQL database for the search service in order to restart the service after this procedure. Upon restrt of the service it rebuilt the database.
I had the same problem. The issue was that my account in Active Directory needed "refreshed". Try updating one of the properties for the account and then see if that corrects the problem. I believe the SID for the account is not correct.
If that does not fix your problem let me know, I have some other ideas.
