SBSMONITORING Database is out of control - HUGE! How can I clear it out?

The SBSMONITORING Database Files on my server are huge. The mdf file is one gigabyte and the ldf file is over two gigabytes. Yes, the service is running, and yes, it is set to automatic. My C:Drive is just about maxed out. I know - I need to move the database off of the C Partition. But the problem remains - Why is the file so huge, and what can I do about it?

I believe that the problem may have been caused by my antivirus program. I noticed that the background scanner was not set to exclude these files, and I think they may be corrupt. Is there any possible way to just flush these files and start fresh without reinstalling?

FYI, a properly running Monitoring Database will have a new SQLAGENT Log file created about every 7 to 10 days in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING\LOG

(depending on the number of devices you have and the amount of user activity)

Yes, that service is running and set to automatic. I have restarted it several times just to make sure. Actually, after I wrote the question, I was able to get the ldf file down to 46k. But don't ask me how. All I know is that it suddenly dropped from just over 2GB to around 46k practically in a blink of an eye after I closed Server Management Console for the umpteenth time.

But the mdf file is still hovering around one GB. At least I can breathe a little now.

BTW, I have actually tried to move the SBSMONITORING Database off of the C Partition, and I'm stuck. I've followed all of the instructions, and I got as far as detaching the database and copying it to the new location, but unfortunately I can't get it to successfully attach the database in the new location. I keep getting an error saying that the physical file name may be incorrect. I've retyped it several times, and checked and rechecked my spelling and syntax. Clearly something is wrong, but I don't know what.

okay, it's getting late, and I discovered the error I was making in my attempts to attach the database. So I have that task completed. However, I still have a mdf file that's over a gig. Hopefully, that will fix itself over the next few days.

If you reinstall the Monitoring Features as I described above it will fix it immediately. Otherwise you'll have to wait for the SQLAGENT to do it's thing.
