Windows SBS Server 2003 appears to disconnect users after about 10 hours

Last Modified: 2013-11-05
We have an SBS 2003 Server with 4 users connecting to it.  Around 5:30PM every day, the users lose connection to the server.  When they try to reconnect to the server, they are asked for their username and password, but that doesn't seem to work.  They have to reboot their systems to reconnect.  Now, the users have told me that if they logon, say later in the day (i.e. show up around 12PM and logon), that they have no problems.  Or, if they reboot say, around 3:00PM, they work fine for the rest of the day.  If they logon, around 7:30AM, and after about 10 hours (5:30PM), the server "kicks them out".  I have checked the user profiles and logon times - all users can logon at all times of the day.  And I have checked that there are no policies stating they have to logoff after xx hours.  Could you please help me resolve this "wierd" issue?

Hello mhansel739,

did you join the computers correctly via http://servername/connectcomputer?
did you setup the server the right way via the wizards?

I did not use the http://servername/connectcomputer option to connect them.  I walked through the XP connection (right clicked on my computer, properties, Computer Name...).  Yes, I followed the wizards.  This is my first SBS, but not my first Windows 2003 Server.
This one is on us!

Ok, I have followed the steps listed in the article by "TechSoEasy" for all the workstations.  I will have to find out how it works out for the client (should know in less than 48 hours).  As soon as I hear good news, then I will be happy to award "suppsaws" the 200 points.

Thank you "suppsaws".  That seems to have resolved the issue.
