Ok, I know now you can't use a placeholder to hide a template column in a DataGrid.  Then how can I hide this column?

<asp:PlaceHolder ID="ReceivedDatePlaceHolder" runat="server">
      <asp:templatecolumn sortexpression="4">
<headerstyle WIDTH="90px" Wrap="False" />
    <itemtemplate><%# DisplayDate(DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem. ReceivedDate")) %>
</ asp:templatecolumn >
