Cant use ftp in Dreamweaver CS3 on Vista
Hello Experts,
I have a fresh brand new install of Windows Vista Home Premium and a fresh install of DreamWeaver CS3. And Office 2007 came with the Laptop. Everything seems to work fine except I can not logon to my server using Dw ftp engine. I get the typical error messages about using "Passive FTP" and firewall settings, that I have read others getting when confronted with a similair problem.
I read the previous post for the same problem on XP (ID: 22581693 "Cant ftp in Dreamweaver"). i tried all the solutions and a number of comibinations. Passive FTP, Secure FTP, with and without firewall (including norton), server compatability and IPv6 transfer mode. I think its Vista, but I dont know where to look.
Please Help
Thank you

My guess is that your user has insufficient Vista rights. Check your permissions...

I'm running Dreamweaver as Administrator in my limited user account and I tried using Dw ftp while logged in as administrator and still no joy.

have you tried to upload with another ftp program, just to eliminate incorrect setting or permissions?
1. Can you manually ftp from the command line?
2. Have you tried checking with the Vista firewall temporarily disabled?
3. Have you tried checking with another Vista system?
4. Have you tried checking with another non-Vista system (to confirm connectivity)?
Thanks.

I can login using a different ftp client on my Vista machine, I disabled Vista and Norton Firewall, I even setup a new port through the firewalls. I havent tried any other Vista machines since this one is the only one I have access to.
I havent tried installing Dreamweaver CS3 on another machine with XP. The XP machines I can try it on dont meet the minimum system requirements.
I know that Dw8 works on XP and Vista, I was able to use both to get to the server.
I hope I am not missing something small, like "Is your netwok cable plugged in?"
Thanks for the help, I have stumped everyone else I know.

I checked Adobe and found no updates available yet, as well as Microsoft (No suprise). I must admit I am pretty good about finding answers on my own so I havent contacted aAdobe directly, not used to doing that. I also had no idea that adobe might provide that kind of support. Its been so long since I have asked for help from a manufacture I guess I never thought about it.
Thanks that will be my next step.

Adobe's support is awful...I much preferred Macromedia as a stand-alone company. You could get a answer without too much effort.

Ok, I went to Adobe public support forum and did some searching and found a similiar problem to mine. His solution was to turn off the Norton email scanner.
So I decided to look around and found that if you go to Norton Internet Securty center >> Additional Options >> Internet Securty and Firewall Options >> Program Control.
If its not in there already add Dw9 to the program list and give it custom settings and click "Modify". Once in "Program Rules" click modify again and set it to allow everything. Setting to "Allow" in the Program Control panel isnt enough.
After that ftp in Dw9 worked just fine with default options.
Thanks for the guidance

Have you downloaded any free ftp tool and tried to connect using that to rule out the possible DW?
