Renamed DC caused remote workstaions to get locked out - Very weird! Need your help!

Hi Guys,
I have this weird phenomena going on with Windows XP Pro workstations. I have renamed my DC couple of weeks ago, which went fairly smooth, no errors or anything like that. In office clients rebooted their workstations twice got the new DC, logged in and everything was fine. On the other hand I have two remote employees who uses Laptops and VPN to the office. After working on the VPN couple of times, they got locked out from their machines! They tried their regular username and password on the new domain name, but I guess since at log on their computer is not on the DC - LAN here they cannot auth or get the final update from the server! This is very annoying, any ideas how to bypass this thing.

One of the employees is in europe, I would hate to send him another laptop. This is really bugging me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you are saying I should log in with the local admin account, connect to the VPN, remove from the DC, reboot, connect to the VPN again, and readd to the domain?



O.K I found the solution. Its basically forcing the cached DC password to clear.

I logged in with a local username activated the VPN and typed
runas /user:mydomain\user2 explorer.exe

Mydomain - domain
user2 - username

wait couple of mins and then logout and login again with the new username on the DC

The only risky thing about doing it in your second message was that if you had to do it remotely, you might not have been able to add it back to the domain, but if you found a workaround, then your problem is solved.
