Exchange Administrator 5.5 - Error opening distribution list

I am running Exchange 5.5 SP4 on a W2K SP4 Server. I can connect to the server from my workstation using the administrator program and view mailboxes fine. However, when I try and open a distribution list it hangs and the above error code appears after about 2 minutes. Physically logging onto the server is fine and I can open the distribution lists and edit them.

I have tried stopping the remote registry service as I have seen various solutions mentioning this, but so far to no avail. Any help much appreciated.

Apologies - the remote registry service is definitely started.

On closer inspection, I found a McAfee Groupsheild 5.5 service that was stuck on starting. I restarted the Exchange Directory service, this in turn restarted the Groupshield service and upon testing, I can now access the distribution lists via RDP again.

Hope this may help someone if it arises on their network.
