Server 2000 with Exchange 2000. I have backed up my mail store
I get two errors
1 -"Windows could not start the Microsoft Exchange Information Store on Local
Computer.  For mor information, reveiw the System Event Log.  If this is a
non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor and refer to
service-specific error code 0."
2- when I try to reinstall Exchange I get "The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboroation Services" cannot be assigned th action "Reinstall
 because:
- Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directiory
- Failed to contact the Schema Master server for the Active Directory forest"

I ran the util on Priv1.edb and pub1.edb, they went from a state of Dirty Shutdown to Clean Shutdown

NetDiag passed with two notes, two of my three DNS servers timed out.

DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Passed
PASS - All the DNS entries for DC are registered on DNS server '192.168.183.15'.
[WARNING] The DNS entries for this DC cannot be verified right now on DNS server 198.215.210.50, ERROR_TIMEOUT.
[WARNING] The DNS entries for this DC are not registered correctly on DNS server '207.170.210.162'. Please wait for 30 minutes for DNS server replication.

OK, I seized the Schema Master and now pass 'DC1 passed test KnowsOfRoleHolders'

I am still unable to start the Exchange Information Stores or MTA stacks. BUT, I do not get the error when I select 'Reinstall Exchange'

Will reinstalling Exchange fix this? Here is the latest DcDiag results, the top passes (except for the time server) - here is the bottom of the results

I HAD two servers,  the other failed a LONG time ago. Below it states 'The server holding the PDC role is down.' will a simple DC Promo work?   Sorry for the 20 questons but EVERYONE is looking at me while I try and get Exchange working
oh yeah THANKS for the directions so far...

I am reinstalling Exchange 2000, although it has been holding on 'Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Colla...' for about an hour. Nothing has stopped responding, it just sits on 'Configuring registry entries for SMTP Service.

I do see 'setup.exe' move up and down in Task Manager...
Just wait it out or do ya have another idea?
