error 452 4.3.1 OUT OF MEMORY in Exchange 2003, so we are not able to recieve external email!
I am running exchange 2003 on server 2003. We are not able to recieve email from people outside our domain, and I am getting a 452 4.3.1 OUT OF MEMORY error when I check the connection using telnet.
I have read microsofts kb article about this, and tried to fix it using their steps but to no avail.

There is a firwall, but I have it wide open and have chacked communication, there is no smtp filtering, there are no connections showing currently. There is avg antivirus, but turned off it still has the same problem. Also, this server is the DC and is running dns and dhcp.
If you turn off SMTP on your firewall, so it is blocked, then restart the SMTP Server Service on the server, what happens then?

I don't see anymore errors once it is blocked, unless I try to send an email. Before I was seeing errors all the time.

I revsolved it, I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS and voila!
This helped me. I stopped SMTP, did an IISreset, then started SMTP and it fixed it for now.
Just FYI
the msKB everyone seems to point to did not help me.

If you look at the SMTP server in ESM, does it show lots of connections?
Is there anything else installed on the server?
Anything between the internet and the Exchange server that scans SMTP traffic? Firewall for example?
