Creating new VPN connection defaults to using internal dial up modem instead of network card
This is really puzzling. I reinstalled Windows to get rid of this problem but it is still there. I have in my laptop a dial up modem and network card. When I try to create a new vpn connection going through the wizard, it defaults it to modem instead of using Local Area Connection. Whats puzzling to me is I go thru exact same procedure on a different computer and it creates VPN connection using Local Area Connection. I also tried disabling internal modem so that it picks up Network card but no use.
Help guys! This is a weird one.

Its Windows XP and I am trying to create a VPN connection using Create new connection. PPTP VPN connection to be exact.
after create new connection, select nconnect to the network @ my workplace under Network connection type (next)... the next screen should give you an option to create either a dial up connection or virtual private network connection over the internet.... which is the one you want

I did the Virtual Private network connection and it made a VPN connection but it asks for dial up number and I have Local Area Connection so it shouldnt ask for dial up number

I re imaged the machine so its all good now. Had to do with WAN, PPTP and L2TP miniports. Splitting the points between you two.
I have corrected this problem by reinstalling the WAN MiniPort drivers through the Device Manager.
