Ghost 12 folder recovery problem - get "fbfFiles_3a" folders not .v2i image.

Hi,
I got Ghost 12 to replace my Ghost 9 because Ghost 9 has a problem ghosting from an IDE drive on one computer to a SATA drive on another PC. Works great from SATA to IDE.

Ghost 12 is driving me crazy.  Instead of getting a .v2i image, it get a hundred "fbfFiles_3a" etc.  Tried everything.  Ghost 12 can back up just specific folders.  It seems to do it, but I can't figure out how to recover the backed up folders.  Keep getting an error about not having a restore point, which seems to require a complete backup of the whole drive.  Followed step-by-step procedure to no avail.  Please advise.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi,
Thanks for the info.  When I follow the directions for folder recovery, Tasks/Recover My Files, I get an error "There is no recovery point".  I do get into a point where it asks for the folders to be recovered, but how should I know all the names of the folders that I backed up?

Still makes no sense to me at all and still cannot get it to work following the directions.  Must be something dumb like I need to backup the whole 400GB drive first and set a recovery point, then backup some folders how dumb is that?].  Also I get a big "At Risk" notice that no recovery point exist for the 400GB drive.

Thanks for responding,
Joe

Hi Exoert14P:
I did try files and folders.  Current file Folder recovery never shows a "Tree of folders" to select folders to recover from a back up.  Ghost 12 will only search for folders or files that you name, which is as dumb as dumb can be.  For example, what if I backuped 20 folders.  Am I supposed to write down each folder name tht I backuped?   I am a multiple certified computer geek and am feeling very dumb about all of this.

Bottom line - Ghost 12 will not backup one simple folder and restore it, if one follows the directions.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Expert4XP:
I gave up on folder backups.  So I tried entire drive C: backup.  First of all, using "one time backup wizard" I see a red x in the icon of the drive I want to back up.  Tried several times and get:
"Errors exist.
-- Unable to write to file
-- Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available

However, I used the browse feature and it found the shared folder on the other pc I wanted to backup to!   Please advise - I can't take any more!  Could it be the Network Credentials Username and Password of the destination PC?  Or is it something stupid like I need to type in the password each time?  The Username and Password are already filled in.

Maybe it doesn't work with a wireless keyboard and mouse [XP install doesn't work with wireless keyboard and mouse]?

Maybe I need to map a drive before ghosting?

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks,
Joe

Hi all,

Just going to keep my Ghost 9.0 and keep it simple.  Will stop trying to backup from IDE to SATA and backing up from a backup pc to main pc.  In other words will only backup my main pc to my backup pc.

Thanks,
Joe
Joe, for non-Vista pc's, Ghost 9 works just fine.  I did have to create the SATA drivers on diskette when booting from the emergency recovery Ghost 9 CD (F6 during boot), but other than that, it was fine.  Ghost 12 is Vista compatible and as I understand it, the master boot record layout was changed with Vista, so it is important to upgrade at that point.

Glad you're back to working again.  And once again, I agree with you regarding Ghost 12 folder/file backups--that design needs some re-work!

Good luck.
Question: So what does one do when they used the Full Desk recovery once every 6 months and the file backup once a week.. after about 6 months thecomputer gets reformatted and they're left with a 6 month old disk backup and the filebackup that is up to date.. is there anyway to get anything out of it? also i tried searching for the folder/files and its not finding anything..help!
what if one does not remember all the names of the files backed up using File and Folder Backup? is there anyway to view what's in there?
