I have a Dell Dimension 5100 desktop that shuts down by itself and then after few minutes it will power itself on. It doesnt just reboot. It completely shuts down and after few minutes it turns it self on.
So far i've changed the power supply and still getting the same issues.
Any suggestions??

In my particular case...

Firstly, the system does not boot into the OS. I have a bootable OS CD inserted and set the BIOS to boot to the CD first. I depress the F2 key and go into the BIOS. I let the PC run there for a few minutes and it reboots itself.

Secondly, I've also disconnected the CD Drive(s), removd the memory readers, the additional peripheral USB PCI card installed, there is no floppy drive, HD's... Only memory in the four banks. I've also played with the memory (removed / replaced / reseated / switched from bank to bank) but same issue occurs.

Thirdly, the fans seem to be working, although, both the power supply and the CPU's Heat Sink cooling fans seem to be blowing or working slow. Not sure, however, how fast or hard these fans should be blowing.

As part of the troubleshooting and testing, I may have to start with the Power Supply, and continue from there. Hopefully the motherboard, as stated in some of the theads I've read, is not the case.

Any additional feedbak would be greatly appreciated...
