Cisco comparable to Cabletron SSR2000
I am currently using the Cabletron SSR2000 router as a main router for about 300 users with 2 branch offices which connect via Point-to-Point T1 lines back to the main office. The SSR is about 8 years old and needs replacing. I am looking at Cisco equipment and would like some recommendations on which is best.
Thanks

I would have to agree with JFrederick29. I would probably use a 2821 as the "core" router at your location and probably Cisco 1841's at each remote site to replace the 1600/2500's.

If I am understanding both of you correctly, then my "core" router would be serving the T1's as well. I dont think I want to do that. I should have a core and at least 1 more for the other end of the T1s. A router with 2 serials. So instead of having 5 routers total. I will have 4. What should my router setup be now?

Agree with Mike and JFrederick29
Make your life simple and have just one router at HQ and one router at each of the branch offices.
With only 2 branch offices, you need 2 T1 interfaces and the basic 2821 will support up to 8 out of the box.
2821 -->T1 1 ----- 1841-->site A
--> T1 2 ----- 1841-->site B
Done. Keep your investment low and your life simple.

Guys,
There are about 10 or so switches from multiple floors and about 300 users all going to this one device currently.(the SSR). What you are saying is to make life simple have this ONE device do all the work for all these things PLUS forward internet traffic to the next hop AND be the T1 "hub" for all satelite offices?
I think one piece that I forgot to mention is the fact that the function that the SSR services is also forwarding all the packets to the next hop being "main" office for me. I am almost like a branch office for the "main" I have branches for my own.
Thanks for all your help so far.

Which devices should be layer 2 and which should be layer 3?
Access switches = L2
Core/aggregation switch = L3
What is your port density requirement to replace the SSR2000?

The SSR has
-16 10/100 ports
-all switches connect here
-the 2 routers from branches offices connect here via ethernet
-2 fiber slots
-to go to the next hop(since i am a branch office of main office)
-expansion bays
-nothing in them right now
So I need a device to do the same job as the SSR, plus 1 device to do the job of the two routers for the branches offices, plus 2 more devices for each branch office. Which Cisco equipment is right for me?

With my current setup, I have a total of 5 routers. The SSR2000 being the main router where all the switches are plugged into. Two cisco routers at the main office for each branch office, one being a 1601R and the second being a 2501. At each branch office I have a 2500series which plugs into hub/switch. With this in mind, what should my upgrade path be now? Do I get one "main" router(to replace the SSR) and get another router to have all the T1's going into(with two serial slots) & (if so please tell me which models to replace the 1600 and 2500) and keep the current routers at each location?
Thanks
