Transfer files from old Mac running OS 7

Hi there,

I'm expecting to get a new Macbook Pro 15" in the next couple of weeks (first Mac ever... pretty stoked).  Upon hearing this news, my Dad, who owns an old Mac running OS 7, wanted to know if files could be transferred from his machine to mine for burning to a cd.  Can this be done?  If so, do I need a special cable / connection in order to connect to his Mac that may not be in general circulation anymore?

Appreciate any input-

First, we need to know what model Mac he is running. LC 580?  Performa? Early beige PPC

Ok, thanks... I'll need to get in touch with him.  I should have an answer later today / tomorrow.
It's a Quadra.  He wasn't able to give me any more info than that.
Dang, they made a bunch of models with that first name but they would have a number after that like 900 or 700 . Ask him to look behind or under the machine. The model number we need will be on there somewhere
It's a Quadra 840AV... does that help?
Appreciate your help!
Anyone?

Ok, thanks pheidius.  Turns out he sent his machine to an Apple dealer and they were able to pull the data off the machine and burn them to cd (not sure how much he had to shell out for it though).
Appreciate your help on this.
