I have a system with an exchange 2003 SP2 enterprise server. It uses a SurfControl smarthost for inbound and outbound mail. I added a second exchange server and moved a mailbox over to it. I discovered that I could not receive internet or internal email on the account moved over to the second server, so I moved it back to the first server and that seemed to solve the problem of receiving internal mail.
Now for reasons unknown, we cannot receive any inbound internet email. I have made exactly zero config changes to the main exchange server and I have not touched the SurfControl system either. Inbound messages get rejected with the following error:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 550 5.7.1 <firstname.lastname@example.org>... Relaying denied
The address has been changed obviously.
