if I have a  function in java that returns an array but we are nto sure how many values it returns each time the code is run, then how do I collect all the values . I think we can do it using the length of the array but how do we do it.

for example there is a function getName() whose return type is Name[] then how do we collect all the contents of this array in individual variables?

Yes suprapto i think that what he wants :)

Adding on to above comment of suprapto

If you are using java 5 and above.

Name[] names  = whatever.getName();
for(Name name:names)
  System.out.println("Name  :" +name);
Name[] names  = whatever.getName();
for(Name name:names)
  System.out.println("Name  :" +name);

That's neat! However, I got bad experiences with 3rd party where their libraries are not compatible with 5.0 and hence we need to downgrade our JDK back to 1.4. Finally, till now, I am still using 1.4 style of codes :) but I must admit that 5.0 is much cleaner and neater :D.
