Activesync Exchange 2003 error 0x86000108 on Motorola Q recurring with contact syncing
A motorola Q has been having a recurring problem with Exchange 2003 activesync for the past 8 months roughly. Approximately every 2 weeks the user will complain of an activesync error on the device with a support code of 0x86000108.

I have determined that the problem is something corrupt in the contact list because if I move all his contacts to another folder and resync it works perfectly. I then move all his contacts back and it syncs back perfectly! 2 weeks later the problem repeats. In between he can change and add contacts to his heart's content.

What is causing this behaviour? It's not like there's a specific contact that's corrupt completely because we can sync the entire list back to the device after we've removed everything and synced.

The latest device updates from Telus are on. We're using a self-signed certificate installed with the verizon tool that's commonly used elsewhere and it all works. Nothing changes in this fix except for removing and resyncing the contacts.

That is exactly what I do and the problem goes away for a week or two. The big problem is that it recurres every time with the contacts being at fault. It's completely predictable that it will fail in that timeframe since it has since January exactly the same way every time..

I work with many people with mobile devices of all kinds and this is the only case like it that i've seen. It just keeps happening again and again.

Thanks for your help!

I have had this problem on a couple of my servers.  I found that if did a hard reset and wiped the whole phone, it seemed to sync again for awhile.  However, within a couple of weeks I had the same error message again.

I applied this fix from Microsoft, and it has worked like a charm.  It is still a beta hotfix so you have to request for them to send it to you.

My client had the exact same problem.  The Q stopped syncing about 3 weeks ago and he could get it working again.  After I applied the hotfix that Yeager23 mentioned and restarted the SBS server, it worked perfectly and syncronized without a hitch.

Great suggestion Yeager23!
