Can't burn dvd's with any software. Invalid field in the CDB???
Hey Guys:

I've got a Plextor PX-716A. It was working fine and then one day it just stopped burning. I get errors with Imgburn, Shrink, Blindwrite and Nero. It does work, it plays movies. It just won't burn.

Here are the errors I have gotten:

BlindWrite: Write error at 16 (16) - Code 05 24 00 [Illegal Request Invalid field in CDB]

ImgBurn : Invalid field in the CDB

I'm sure Nero says the same thing but I didn't want to waste space here posting the whole Log.

So, is there a way to correct this???

( I am running Windows XP Pro w/SP2 on a 3.0ghz intell chip. )

Thanks,

jwmghf

I think your write.  I will try changing out the drive.

Thanks

For what it's worth, my previous plextor died - but just the burning part, and just when writing CD-RW discs.   I could read discs fine, and I could burn "regular" discs fine-- just not RW's.    Didn't matter what media, etc.   Eventually I ran the self-test diags, something got flagged, and I was able to RMA the drive with Plextor because it was still covered by the 1 year warranty.

While I was a huge believer in Plextor drives for a long time, I understand their hardware quality has been declining, and I even heard that some of their newer drives are actually made by a third party.   LITE-ON has been catching up in recent years, and their quality is good I understand.

No matter--  new drives are easily under 40 bucks these days.   Gad, I remember having to pay almost $120 for a new plextor CD-RW drive (PX-708 I think).    With all the dual-layer technology abounding that some people are flocking to, "standard" DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drives are incredibly cheap.......
