Hard Disk Volume doesn't open normally...

Dear friends !

I have a very simple problem but I didn't get the right solution for my problem. I had posted my question three to four days before but I am still looking for the solution.

This is first time I faced this problem. I have three partition of my single physical hard disk. (The partitions are C:, D: and E:). C: is boot and system partition. Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 is installed as Operating System. Everything was working well.

But...for some days...when I try to open these partition by double clicking on them, I find the same Open with option that we can find when running an application which doesn't have supported application software or have many application software that support that application.

I think that you understood what I am saying. When you have RealPlayer, Vloc and default Windows Media Player installed in your computer, you can use any of these program for running video or audio clips. For that you will just have to right click the video file and select Open With...

The same Open With Option comes when I try to open any of my three partitions by double clicking on them.

I have scanned the PC with antivirus and it has detected virus and deleted them. I also used repairing of Operating System but it didn't work.

I had posted the same problem earlier but couldn't find the solution.

I didn't try Winternal's ERD Commander. WIll it work in this scenerio ? Please help me in this regard.

Thanks...

Dear friends !

Please see the comment given by bmsjeff. I readout his comment. I tried to test it on a fresh new PC. As it was fresh installed, it was exploring all the volumes by double clicking on them.

Then I tried the steps of the comment.

I went in Tools----->Folder Options----->File Types. There I found a list for Registered File Types.

In this list, I selected Extension NONE File Type Drive. I clicked on the Advance Button and in the Action, I selected find and made it default by clicking on SET DEFAULT button. It got bold.

Then I returned and tried to open C: and D: drive by double clicking them. I found the same Open With option.

I am quite sure because I selected the Action - Find and I made it default, this problem raised. Then I again went in Tools--->Folder Options---->File Types---->Selected Extension NONE and File Type Drive and I found that change is disabled and Delete is disabled and when I went in Advance tab and again selected the Action Find and click on Set Default, it changed to non-bold.

I want to know how can I change these settings ?

It is not a virus problem. If it had been a virus problem, how was I able to explorer the volumes by double clicking them.

I am also able to see all the partitions from the Disk Management so there is no problem related to MBR.

This is the new PC where I tested the steps only. I thought that I will again undo the changes but I failed. I know one should not do these type of test on a fresh working PC. I will remember it in future.

The similar problem raised in this new PC when I select Action--->Find and set it default.

Please give your valuable comments...
