Open and copy info from QE7 documents

I have been given a Quark document from a publisher but I merely wish to do two things to it: Copy the content so that it can be used on our website & create a PDF version of the publication.

I have downloaded the 30 trial of QE7 but I'm reluctant to have to fork out quite a lot of money to do something so simple. I have a raft of MS software (inc Publisher 2007) and we're thinging of buying CS3 (web version).

Is there any software out there that will allow me to do what I need at a reasonable cost compared to QE7?

Hi, u101404,

the only application that can open QuarkXPress files is QuarkXPress. There is a plug-in for InDesign however InDesign is not really cheaper unless you get it free with a Creative Suite (plus you need to buy the plug-in).

If you have that often and want to automate it, you might want to think about Output Enhancements XT (free for 6.x, hopefully soon available for version 7) or QuarkXPress Server (more expensive than QuarkXPress though).

If all are no options, maybe a better way to work is to ask the person who sends you the QuarkXPress files to give you a PDF, Word documents or XML. All you can create out of QuarkXPress, the two latter options you of course loose the layout (but that's probably ok for you).

Thanx for your comments. You are correct in saying I'm only looking for the basics but can you tell me going back to what version allows a Word file and PDF to be created from QE? I know I can do this thru QE7 (as I have the evaluation copy), and is it a simple process - like File > Save As and then selecting the appropriate output? The newspaper produced for us is in A3 format but I could easily reduce this to A4 when doing it with QE7, do you know if its easy enough to do with previous versions? I also have Acrobat 7 Professional on my machine and have the PDF creator printer on my machine but can you export to PDF by default or is there a plug-in requred - like PDF writer?

Sorry for the questions but I'm going to have to go back to our publisher and put these points to them.

Thanx
