I had the same issue, but the file would not save on a remote server. So I forced quitted In-Design and then restarted - the recovery happened automatically and it recovered the file fully.<br />
When you say during this problem, you file in you finder looks like it not being update and the modified date does not change. But its saving the file in the auto recovery folder. So you can force quick and recover without losing anything. <br />
Not sure why it happens, but it recovers well.

Having a strange issue with InDesign is OS X. &nbsp;sometimes Adobe InDesign won't save or can't save after working on documents.<br />
