XP Hangs At Splash Screen

Hi there:

I have an AMD 768 MB RAM and 60GB HD. I have a partition
with XP Pro with SP2 and Mandrake Linux

From time to time when I turn on the PC it freezes
at the main Windows XP logo screen.

I tried rebooting getting the safe mode, normal start, last known configurations options
in the screen but the only option that works is safe mode, none of the 2 others work.

I tried:
Windows restore and nothing,
rebooting serveral times and nothing
cold booting and nothing!

the only solution I have that works is to put the Win XP cd and do a repair
which takes and hour and is anoying, anyone know what could be the problem
and the solution to this?

Thanks

When you boot into safe mode, can you have a look in the event viewer?
If safe mode works, then it is more than likely an issue with drivers that are on the machine, as from what I can gather, that is one of the few things this is loaded at the time of the splash screen. It may be worth removing any non-crucial pieces of hardware to see if that resolves the issue.

Disabling "legacy video capture devices" in Sound Video and game controllers
has solved the issue. thank you very much.
