Testing user permissions

Is there a way to test a user's permissions on networked folders without having to login from a Domain computer?
Here's my structure:
<shared folder "dashboard">
     |>fiscal
         |>data1
             |>support
         |>data2
I need to set Modify permissions for a user "Kim" to access the "support" folder, but I don't want her to have access to any other folders.
How do I set the permissions?
Is there a way for me to test her permissions on this folder?  I thought there was something out there you could test the permissions of a user without having to login on a computer with the user's username and password.

Yes, there's a feature known as effective permissions. Right-click the folder you want to verify the security on, Properties, Security tab. Press the Advanced button then go to the "Effective Permissions" tab. From there you can enter a user or group by pressing the button and the effective permissions for the user you enter, in this case Kim, will be listed with checkboxes in the text area found in that window.

Hope this helps

It does, thank you.  Any chance I can get help on the permissions?

You would need to have your permissions configured in dashboard, fiscal and data1 so that only the users necessary can access it and modify as appropriate. Make sure Kim isn't a member of one of these groups if you add them here otherwise she will inherit this access.

Then, on the support folder, leave the permissions inheriting but add Kim and give her modify rights (or a group containing users in the same position as Kim). This will get things running. Don't forget you'll have to browse to the complete path, since Kim doesn't have rights to read the dashboard, fiscal or data1 folders. You'll need to go to \\<servername>\dashboard\fiscal\data1\support directly.
