Verifying USN seems to be running forever

I have been trying to recover a database file from a sick hard drive -- finally ran chkdsk /f /r E:

It whirred for some time and then started verifying USN journal

That has been running for about 1.5 hours on 60 gb drive -- can not find anything that would suggest how long it will/should run

Depends on the damage.
I would wait it out in any case.

2. You may need to unhide hidden files to see them. Open Windows Explorer folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

       -These look good. I've used tools like this in the past they work very well. If you spend some time
   & check out the links I'd bet you can find a free one in there somewhere... These 3 links arent for
     Free softwares but are dead on matches & seem very good...
