Running Web Services from .NET app to Linux Apache Server

I have a .NET website that needs to update a database that lies on a separate apache web server running linux. Unfortunately, I can't update the database directly, so I would like to use web services.

The database lies on a web server running:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 and Apache 2.0

I initially planned to use  "Mono" to interface between the two machines, but apparently this does not work with the enterprise version of linux.

I know very little about Linux and am having trouble getting started. Where do i begin?

I dont think u need to use mono here....mono is to run .net applications in linux...you dont need that here...
what u will need is, first set up the linux machine to run webservices...and test whether your system is running websevice....

I hope your linux machine is having an ip address using which it can be accessed by windows machine...

before testing it, write a small web application using php/linux/apache and run to call it from windows machine. just to make sure that your application is accessible form windows box.

check this link and follow the instruction to configure a webservice.

once the web service is set up, try to see if it works from the linux box. then try to call it from the windows machine...
