Defrag Harddrive

When I try to defrag my hardrive it won't respond. The drive is C:\
My os is win xp media. I have a Dell xps 410 desktop computer.

Right click on C drive and check how much free space left? how big is your hard drive?
What do you mean wont respond? Does your computer lock up?
Maybe defragging does not work right on Media center.  I have never heard of anyone using it.  Defrags on todays fast drives does little good, there is almost no noticable improvement.  If you want faster performance, get more RAM for the system, a faster CPU, or a HDD with a faster seek time.  If you want 10X better performance than media center, wipe it away and install XP professional -- that will solve it.
