I have seen similar posts but ...

I have taken over management of a no brand Win 2003 server with SP1 (about 4-5 years). During patching, and after a reboot..I can log on but it immediately logs me off after the logon screen.  I have tried starting in safe mode with the various options available good.  Tried other logon good.

I have tried booting from the CD luck (even though I have enabled it in the BIOS).  The CD drive does work..apparently you cannot boot from it though.  It doesn't have recovery console installed. There is no original install CDs. I do have the Win 2003 CDs.

The server is a print server and a DC as well.  Users can print to it and I can map drives from another it appears to be working.   I can access its registry via remote registry from another workstation. I did take a System State backup to file prior to backup and burnt it to CD.

Any other options on how I can logon on to it ?

thanks, Michelle

I solved that very problem several times by using regedit from remote and checking/altering mounteddevices
