how print server and printers work in Network

I want to know in Network if we have few printers with IP addresses and also Print Server
with IP address and if user want to print how does it work.Request goes to Print server first or
to printer first.also the Defaultgateway of Printer is Same as Default gateway of Print server.
and if somehow is user is unbale to print from specfic printer what troubleshooting steps we will use

    If you have a print server then the computers would go through it.  The printers would connect to it.  The IPs on the printers should still be static but you would miss the benefit of the print server if the computers went directly to the printer.

    By the way, if you need more details then what type of network do you have (i.e. server, number of workstations, etc)?  Also what is the make and model of the print server or what will provide that service?
