What should I do in order to compact all of my email folders?

I found the following EE link: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Applications/Q_22392418.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+compact#a18543552
Would any of these suggestions in the thread above work for me?

Thanks!

Greetings cdplayer !

1. Register two important Outlook files. Go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 OLE32.DLL
Also, type regsvr32 inetcomm.dll

2. Check if folders.dbx file is corrupt.  With OE close, do search for folders.dbx and rename it to folders.old.

The file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\<hexadecimal number>\Microsoft\Outlook Express folder. It is a hidden folder, so you have to unhide hidden folders and files to see it. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders". Click OK.

3. Check if DBX file is corrupt. Perform a repair with
Outlook Express Repair Tool - free 30 trial version
http://www.nsware.com/Repair-Tool-for-Outlook-Express.htm

4. Create a new Outlook Express identity.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/209169

5. Repair or Reinstall Outlook Express.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/263837

Hope this helps, war1

Thanks war1!
After performing your first suggestion, registering OLE32.DLL and inetcomm.dll I was able to compact all of the folders under Outlook Express.
A few of the folders remain empty. I discovered a few files in the Recycle Bin before I started your suggestions that have the name(s) of the email folder with the file extension of .bak. Is there any way of pulling email messages out of such file? Maybe the first question I should ask is, What is in those files with the extension of .bak?

Thanks!

cdplayer,

Glad you can compact your messages.  .bak means backup.  It depends on what is in front of the .bak.  If it is an email message, you can rename it with .eml extension.

Note: Be careful in compacting OE folders. If the folders are too large (over 500 MB), they can corrupt. and you will not have access to the emails.
