Extend MenuStrip "Insert Standard Items"

In the .NET 2.0 Framework, the System.Windows.Forms.MenuStrip provides a Smart Tag for inserting standard menu items e.g. File -> New.

Is there a way to extend this feature?
I am looking at inheriting the System.Windows.Forms.MenuStrip and adding a SmartTag capability to my custom MenuStrip, but all the help that I have found for Smart Tags does not show how to provide functionality equivalent to the "Insert Standard Items" which actually generates code inside the form.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
