Remote file sharing opening does not work

Hi,
I am trying to share a Email Campaign Management.fp7 on a Workgroup.
I open the file on the machine on which it is located and enable FileMaker sharing.
Then, when I try to open it remotely from another machine, I get the error message that the host's capacity was exceeded.
I am running two different FMP's, the one on the Main machine is a 8.01, the other license (remote) is a 8.5.

What is the mistake?

no, but is it supposed to work? fm pro 8.5 can work with fm server 8 (real server), but I never read that you can mix versions when sharing files in between fm pro apps. though there is no big reason why it should not... apart from the files where the new 8.5 features are used. make yr life easier, if you don't need the web viewer (the only difference really), use v8 everywhere untill you can upgrade everybody.

it should work, though never tested mixed versions like that...
how many people do you connect to the main one, it is limited to 5.

I have it also on another network (my question related to my home network as a trial).
On that one the server is version 8.5, with two clients 8.0 and 8.5 (8.5 same serial).
I think FM checks the serial before letting you open the file, correct?

indeed it does!
you can install the same serial nb twice, but you can't use them on the same file, be it a regular filemaker pro sharing a file or a real filemaker server

I can open them with two, same sn, not with three...
I upgraded the server to 8.5, now I don't get that message anymore.

are the 3 having the same # or all different?

2 same.

the rule must have changed then... I am not really sure about the way it was since I have never been sharing files, but always using a real fm server where no dup # was allowed. anyway, it is a good idea to let people to test fm file sharing without buying a 2nd copy to start with. filemaker would become generous? amazing...

Good news. I found a similar error.
Now I try to access the Email Campaign Management.fp7 (which is on a 8.5) remote with a 8.01 version and get the error message that the either the host is not available or the file is not available on that host.
I can open it alone via Win Explorer.

lesouefCommented:
opening it alone via win explorer is the same as using it stand alone, no filemaker file sharing is involved

Any idea why I cannot open the fp7 remotely with 8.01 on a 8.5 server?

Couldn't find a solution for this.
I am closing this question and will assign you the points.

Thanks for your help.

you could not...  that's weird... I am confused now, were you using a real fm server or just sharing a file with filemaker pro, but with the file on a remote shared folder? and in any case, do you open it using "open remote"?
and what is the rule, 1st who opens is ok, then 2nd is rejected or is it always the same which gets rejected?
