How do I undo effects in Illustrator?

I have a shape with a scribble, shadow, and pucker and bloat ,and I want to revert to no effects.  The effects were applied many many steps ago so I can't use the undo command.

Thanks!

John

Illustrator 10
with the Direct Selectio tool(A)
select the requried effect only and hit delete

Illustrator CS2
select teh object
in the Appearace palette, delete the required effects

Well. that's simple enough, thanks!  Is there a key command for delete in CS, as i'm always looking for ways to give my right wrist a rest.

Thanks,
John
