Vaio laptop not listing memory key?

I plug my Sony Microvault USB key into just about any computer and its instantly working, usually listed as "removable drive E" (or "F").

However, when I plug it into my new Vaio laptop, I get the ding dong of recognition followed by about 2 minutes of frantic activity light with cursor busy on screen, then nothing.  If I list the drives, its not there.

What is there occupying the drive letters are the empty SD/MMC slot (as D), the empty MagicGate slot (as E), and the empty DVD drive (as F), followed by mapped network drives of G, H. K and M ... so I was expecting the memory key as "J" maybe?

The key still works fine back in XP PCs etc.

    Accepted Solution

Go into the Disk manager and see if it shows up.

You should be able to assign it a drive letter from there.

    I hope this helps !

Also, try a different USB port.

I eventually found Disk Manager (control panel/admin tools/computer management/) and the problem was that the key was being assigned drive G, the same letter as a network drive that wasn't currently available. I changed this to be "J", and then it was OK.
