cropping picture to clipping mask - dropping/deleting all items outside the boundary box
In my image i have some items which i have pulled off my page so that only a section of it is visible in my printed picture. i need to remove the items hanging over the boundary box completely. i know how to use clipping mask, and how to crop the area - but the overhanging items remain there. I want them actually chopped out completely.
i have been trying to use effect/pathfinder/crop but this doesnt remove it either.
Can you tell me what i should be doing to crop the page down and remove all items outwith my boundary?
help!!!

i have no clue why your printer wants that.....they shouldn't have any trouble in printing the images if they are hidden using clipping masks....
but anywayz......are you embedding the images or linking them?
in both cases, first use photoshop to crop them out according to the requirements, and then save them to be linked/placed in illustrator.

im back again... if i want to crop a vector drawing which is hanging off is that the same situation or do i have to turn it into a picture and bring it back in?
sorrrrry....
sorrrrry....
if its vector......you can edit it using illustrator tools......i mean by deleting the anchor points.....

ps. thank you for answering so quickly, im driven to distraction with this. my printer is convinced that i can clip it out completely in illustrator and i just dont see it... and im not crazy it would appear, the only thing ive ever used is the clipping mask, which as you rightly point out only hides unneeded portions.
