Need to export 2000 mailbox data to a new 2003 build

Guys,

I have a client that is running Server 2000 standard used as a DC and also has Exchange 2000 standard on their too.

I have arrange a new box as the present one has numerous build and hardware issues.

I have SBS 2003 loaded with Exchange 2003 SP2.

I want to build a new domain for them, didnt know whether to keep the internal domain the same as the existing one, wanted to start to fresh really.

If i change the internal domain will this cause a problem with me exporting the mailbox data do you think?

I planned to export the mailboxes (only 12 of them) using exmerge and then import them into the new accounts on the new domain.

Do you think this will be possible?

The domain name, when using Exmerge for import and export, is unimportant - Exmerge saves PST files that could be opened in Outlook - and reimported into a new system.  The only catch, when you reimport them, you need to make sure the user names are correct (the same between the old domain and the new domain) as exmerge does things based on user name.

Of course, don't be foolish - if you've never done this before, ALWAYS test before doing in a production environment.

Changing their domain name is fine, but be sure to first remove the workstations from the previous domain before joining them to the SBS2003 Domain using http://<SBSSERVERNAME>/connectcomputer
