Send an email to a GroupWise distribution list from an external account

Can I send an email from an external account to a GroupWise distribution list?

i.e.
I have a GroupWise distribution list - Accounts@domain.ab.ca
I would like to send an email to this address from an external email account like hotmail. When I try I get a bounce message: 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'No such recipient'
The distribution list works internally.
Is there something I have to do on the server side to make this address available to the outside world?
Thanks in advance,
Rory

It would be nice to know what version/SP of GroupWise we're talking about.   Things change between versions, sometimes radically.

Do yoiu have the visibility set to System?  I seem to recall that being a factor.  If you say "domain" it is only in the address list for domain members, and if you say "post office" it's only visible to members of its PO.   If GWIA can't "see" it, it's an unknown address...  I think...

We are using GroupWise 6.5. and have the visibility set to system. What is GWIA?

Are we able to make it visable?

I don't know.  You say visibility is system.

I guess what I'm wondering now is, do you have anything "front-ending" the GWIA, like a spam filter server or an antivirus server, that might be rejecting the email before GWIA even sees it?

I don't think so because I can send to regular email accounts from an outside account.

Do you have GroupWise that you could test with?

As I recall, there is a specific setting in the GWIA configuration to permit external senders to use GroupWise-defined Distribution Lists. I don't have a GroupWise-enabled ConsoleOne handy, so I can't give you the specific tab and panel where the setting lives, but it's in the GWIA configuration.

Here and there.

Netminder dropped me a line and convinced me to poke my nose in for a bit.

This shades-of-blue color scheme sucks for us blue-green-colorblind folx, tho, so I dunno how long I'll stick around. It's very rough on my eyes.

Is there anyone else that might be able to point me to where I can make an internal Distribution List address in GroupWise able to receive emails from an external email address?

I don't know if you've resolved this yet but in case you still need to do this.  Go into the "Properties" of your Distribution List and add a "nickname".  Choose only the "Domain.PO:" and the "Object ID:", make sure the "Visibility:" is set to "System".  You don't need to fill in anything else for Distribution Lists.  The "Object ID" = the internet address you want to send to.
Example:
In this example your E-mail Domain is xyz.com
You want the distribution list Internet Address to be "MyLists@xyz.com
You enter the Object ID as MyLists
From the internet you send an E-mail to mylists@xyz.com  It should then be delived to everyone in the distribution list.
