In exchange 2003 I need to move mailboxes from one storage group to another.  I know that Exchange Tasks does it.  I would like to know can users be on there email while I am moving boxes.  Does it take long. Can I do this during the day or after hours.  Please let me know.

    Accepted Solution

You do not want the users accessing mail during the times that you are moving the mailbox.  The time it takes will depends on the size of the mailbox, and the link between the two servers.   After hours is a better time to migrate a mailbox.

It's recommended that you ensure you have a good backup before moving mailboxes just in case. Users cannot be connected during the move and it's probably something you'd be best of doing out of hours.
